Reflection

Reflecting on this assignment and what I have learnt about web design, there is a lot to talk about. Inspired by modern web design, I made the first version of the site utilising rounded corners, a modern font, and colourful images. This looked good to me to begin with, however as I was exposed to more mature design language it seemed a little off.

Looking at the feedback, there were noticiable flaws in the first version of my site, such as missing navigation menus for all the pages, and slightly inconsistent application of the same styles.

A lot of these issues were addressed to my best effort in part 2, with me simplifying the navigation menu, cleaning up the HTML/CSS and adding more functionality. To me, this was a much better version of my website.

At the end of the day, this site was for us to express our hobbies and passions in a way that could be shown to the greater web. If there was something I'd change since the very beginning it would be the slight conflict of topics that are written on the front page. I mainly talk about photography in the hobbies section, but also mention gaming among other things. Since I've decided to dedicate the site to photography, the other topics don't hold much bearing and end up being there for not much reason.

It could have been more succinct. There were times where I wondered if I should pick function over form. So I ended up making it a little restrictive in terms of flexibility to content.

Other than that, I wish I had started off with a layout more suited to chunks of information rather than massive blocks. During part 3, however is where I revamped the appearance of the front page. To me at least, this is way better. It is easier on the eyes due to using darker colours, and I took other design elements from more mature minimalistic websites to create it.

Overall I still have a ways to go, however this has been a useful learning experience.
